“Waiting” - a song about scoundrelling
Recorded on Maui in the Hawaiian archipelago
Story Pairing
Sometimes you write a scoundrelly song. This tune was directly inspired by a song by Albert King.
A local songwriter and friend, Ray Flanagan, had sent it to me after we were talking about old blues recordings. Listening to it, it struck me how much you can get away with if you put it in a song. Growing up listening to artists like Eminem and Limp Bizkit (yea that’s right), content can get pretty graphic pretty quick. There is something about blues though that makes it “feel” like something more complex and not just rage or aggressive whining.
Here is the original inspiration.
That’s it. Nothing really more in the story department. I was inspired and wanted to write a simple blues tune with a little message of warning at the end.

Lyrics
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
Waiting for your man to be back soon
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
But I only see me and see you
Went into town to find your doctor
Went into town to find your nurse
Went into town to find your doctor
Cause that empty broken heart well it hurts
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
Waiting for your man to be back soon
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
But I only see me and see you
Give me one chance and let me love you
Give me one chance to do you right
Give me one chance and let me love you
Just one chance, just one night
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
Waiting for your man to be back soon
You’ve been waiting for your man to come home mama
But I only see me and see you
Put them flowers on my grave pretty woman
Put them flowers on my gave if you please
Put them flowers on my grave pretty woman
Cause your man came home and shot me
