“100 Days” - a song about passivity
I wanted to release this closer to the actual 100 day mark of 2025, but it wasn’t ready.
Story Pairing
I guess I don’t really need to hide my thoughts within vague metaphor when writing the prose for this one.
I don’t think good things are happening in the world and I think we are being taken advantage of pretty incredibly. I lack the tools and training to know how to fix the crumbling bridge that gaps differences in opinions, so for now I will keep throwing songs at the problems.
I started watching this YouTube channel where a liberal leaning son and daughter interview their very right leaning mother and father. It’s called the “The Necessary Conversation” and I really enjoy it. It one of the only things I have seen where some of the extreme viewpoints get shared not in an echo chamber, but in a place where some logic still sets the tone.
The thing I notice more and more is that I am finding it hard to fit into either side of things. I’ve always loved the independence and can-do attitude of the red, but socially I align much more with the blue and absolutely plant my flag on the hill of letting people be who they are, love who they want, and pray to whatever floats their boat. I think what’s being created now are these bastardizations of each side and there is so much extremism happening that it’s impossible for one side to see through the eyes of another. And I think that serves the agenda of the extra wealthy to be able to keep stirring the pot and then leading the masses towards a room of smoke and mirrors to duke it out while they benefit from whatever turmoil is on the menu. (a lot of thinking for a simpleton).
Add this political turmoil to the pot that is also holding mounds of uncertainty as AI shakes up industry after industry, a planet that seems to be throwing environmental tantrums as we misuse her, and just a general unrest on the streets… and it makes me pretty hesitant and unexcited to see what’s around the corner. This tune is a small blip of some of that uncertainty poking its head out into my notebook.
I hope my ramblings aren’t adding weight to your chest and thoughts, and if so I apologize. What I do hope is that hearing a slice of another’s perspective helps us keep listening. I am trying my best as I hop around from place to place to listen first and speak second. That means I am hearing some frustrating versions of what people are thinking but also some really beautiful ones and finding a lot of underlying common ground. That ground is what’s being targeted, see it and protect it.

Lyrics
If 100 days is not enough
To see the writing on the wall
We should all go to the doctor
Have her check our broken eyeballs
If they keep on cutting off your toes
That’s no innocent mistake
That’s intention and it’ll keep happening
Far past 100 days
Theres a sorry state of affairs
Floating round capitol hill
They don’t care much bout the little folk
Doubt they ever will
They have us fighting with each other
That's the show that always pays
Is it how you wanna spend your next 100 days
100 days is not enough to know the future crystal clear
But there’s a vague concept of what’s been going sour around here
If you’re turning a blind eye when the people start to bite
You’ll find the cost of silence is rising overnight
Theres two sides to a coin
Were down to our last few
Hes throwing em in hats
An American thing to do
Reminiscent of red arms bands
Lambs blood up on doorways
Let’s see how history repeats
In another hundred days
I can hear you calling me crazy
Comparing bicycles to fish
Hows an angry god or a fascist
Come even close to this
I hate to be the one that tells ya
But it's a spark what starts a blaze
I hope we aren’t all burning in another 100 days
100 days is not enough to know the future crystal clear
But there’s a vague concept of what’s been going sour around here
If you’re turning a blind eye when the people start to bite
You’ll find the cost of silence is rising overnight
If 100 days is not enough
To see the writing on the wall
We should all go to the doctor
Have her check our broken eyeballs
